At our galas, both steam and diesel, we run an intensive service of half hourly passenger trains interspersed with special trains, usually freight, between them. This gives photographers departures every 15 minutes and 4 trains on the line at any one time. Trains pass at Lakeside Loop which is large enough to allow both sets of trains to pass at the same time - this is usually the best place for photographs during the gala weekend as it can get very busy! The passing loop signal box is usually open as well on gala weekends to control everything safely. Trains are often cycled at Hunthouse Wood so a different locomotive combination is used on the return trip. Two, three or even more locomotive combinations are common on virtually all trains and the final day calvacade is not to be missed when we try and get every locomotive onto 1 train!
