RUDYARD LAKE STEAM RAILWAY-PRESS RELEASES
Rudyard Lake Steam Railway is near Leek in the North Staffordshire Peak District and its steam trains give a great family day out with 3 mile return trip along the side of Rudyard lake. The railway uses real coal fired engines to pull all its trains. The railways 5 steam engines all have names linked to the tales of King Arthur. Its one of the UK's finest heritage steam railways and is constantly developing new attractions to give great family days out.
The lake railway uses narrow gauge steam engines on its trains and is just North of Leek in Staffordshire close to the borders of Cheshire and Derbyshire. The trains are equivalent to about half the size of a narrow gauge railway with 10.25 inch gauge tracks. The steam trains run whatever the weather and have covered coaches.
Rudyard lake was developed in the 1900's by the North Staffordshire Railway Company to offer days out to the workers of the Midlands and North West. It was known as the Blackpool of the Potteries.
The Lake retains its great beauty and serenity and was recently named the 3rd most romantic spot in the UK.
Rudyard Lake is a historic site where Rudyard Kipling's parents met on a picnic and named their son after the spot where they met. Rudyard was brought up in India and became poet Laureate and wrote Jungle Book etc
The lake is a great family centre for picnics, sailing, boating and fishing as well as riding the steam train. The railway is privately owned and run with the aid of a group of local volunteers. All revenue is reinvested in improving the railway.
