    The Railway

Santa specials ran in December and January despite the snow with King Arthur and Pendragon pulling the trains.

Steam Trains are now running every Sunday from 11.00am to 3pm.no booking is required.

The Rudyard Lake Steam Railway is in the North Staffordshire Peak District and our steam trains give a great 3 mile return trip along the side of the lake. The railway uses real coal fired narrow gauge steam engines to pull its trains. The railways 5 steam engines all have names linked to the tales of King Arthur.

Rudyard Lake is a historic site where Rudyard Kipling's parents met and named their son after the spot they met. The lake railway uses narrow gauge steam engines on its trains and is just North of Leek in Staffordshire close to the borders of Cheshire and Derbyshire.

The lake was originally developed by the North Staffordshire Railway Company to offer days out to the workers of the Midlands and North West. Rudyard Lake retains its beauty and serenity and was recently named the 3rd most romantic spot in the UK. The lake is a great family centre for picnics , sailing, boating and fishing as well as riding the steam train. It makes a superb day out for children. The railway is 10.25 inch gauge and is equivalent to about half the size of a narrow gauge railway. The steam trains run whatever the weather and have covered coaches.
