Visiting Rudyard & the Steam Railway by road

COMING BY ROAD

The railway starts from Rudyard Station where there is a free car park. Its on Rudyard Road, the B5331 one kilometre west from the junction of the A523 Leek to Macclesfield Trunk Road. Watch out for the brown signs on the A523 which are about one kilometre North of Leek. The post code if you have a SAT Nav is ST13 8PF. This will take you onto Rudyard Road. The entrance to the station is right next to the old railway bridge. Take the ramp up into the free car park.

The steam railway at Rudyard is located between  Leek in Staffordshire and Macclesfield in Cheshire one mile along the B5331 from its junction with the A523. We are close to the Cheshire, Staffordshire, Derbyshire borders and easy to get to from Macclesfield, Congleton, Knutsford, Buxton as well as Leek and Stoke. We are also near Alton Towers and Trentham Gardens.

Our covered picnic area is now available at Rudyard Station next to the Platform 2 cafe and can be reserved for booked parties.  However a room is also available inside at the Lake activity centre near to the Dam Station. Telephone Ray Perry 07718 808881 or email info@rudyardlake.com for details.

OTHER TRAVEL OPTIONS

Mainline trains serve Stoke on Trent about 10 miles away and a frequent bus service runs from there to Leek. There are also services to Congleton and Macclesfield. There is an regular but infrequent midweek only bus service from Leek to Rudyard run by Baker Bus.

The Railway at Rudyard

Trains run every Sunday from 11.00am to 4pm.( 3pm in Winter) Saturdays from April and all school holidays. See the timetable page for full details.

The Rudyard Lake Steam Railway is in the North Staffordshire Peak District and our steam trains give a great 3 mile return trip along the side of the lake.

Rudyard Lake is a historic site where Rudyard Kipling's parents met and named their son after the spot they met. The lake railway uses narrow gauge steam engines on its trains and is just North of Leek in Staffordshire close to the borders of Cheshire and Derbyshire.
