Disabled Access to Rudyard Lake & Steam Railway

Disabled access is available to all our stations. Our platforms are all at ground level and are wheelchair accessible.
We can also carry foldable wheelchairs on all our trains in a wagon provided for this. We cannot load a wheelchair with occupant onto our trains due to their restricted size.
We do have coaches with easier access for those with mobility issues. Please speak to the guard or driver and they will be happy to assist you
Access to Platform 2 cafe at Rudyard Station is by level access along the reserved path and over the level crossing then up the ramp onto the old platform or over the footbridge.

The lake is 2.5 miles in length and is the longest straight stretch of water outside the lake district. The railway starts from Rudyard Station where there is a free car park. Its on Rudyard road, the B5331 one kilometre west from the junction of the A523 Leek to Macclesfield Trunk Road. watch out for the brown signs on the A523 which are about one kilometre North of Leek. The post code if you have a SaT Nav is ST13 8PF. This will take you onto Rudyard Road. The entrance to the station is right next to the old railway bridge. Take the ramp up into the car park

The railway is the best way to see the lake especially if you have mobility problems. Check out our web page opposite. We offer learn to drive a steam engine courses and these are highly regarded by everyone who has undertaken one
The Platform 2 cafe provides catering facilities at Rudyard Station at weekends from mid March to the end of October and on selected dates midweek in summer
Our covered picnic and birthday party areas are now available at Rudyard Station without any extra charge for booked parties purchasing food from Platform 2 . The Rudyard Lake Steam Railway is in the North Staffordshire Peak District and our steam trains give a great 3 mile return trip along the side of the lake. The railway uses real coal fired narrow gauge steam engines to pull its trains. The railways 5 steam engines all have names linked to the tales of King Arthur.
